Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and if you are hosting this year’s dinner, now’s the time to start planning for it. Planning ahead will help the day go smoothly and be fun for everyone (yes, for you, too!). Here are some helpful tips and tricks to help you host a successful Thanksgiving gathering that your guests will not soon forget.

Plan ahead. This goes without saying, but it’s a good idea to make a timeline for prep work in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and a timeline for the big day itself so there’s a sense of order in the kitchen.

Share oven space. When putting together your timeline, be sure to consider how much oven space you have and what dishes can cook together.

Ask for help. Don’t take everything on yourself. Just because you’re the host doesn’t mean you need to cook all of the dishes. Solicit help from family and friends attending your meal!

Set the table the night before. No need to save this for Thanksgiving day. Setting your table ahead of time gives you one less thing to worry about on the big day.

Test tricky recipes before. It may not be the best idea to experiment with new recipes on Thanksgiving day. Instead, give yourself a few weeks to try out new ones so you’ll feel more confident come Turkey Day.

Go simple with the booze. Offer a ‘house’ red, white and sparkling option and a big batch of a signature cocktail for guests to sip when they arrive.

Offer to-go boxes. Pick up to-go containers from your local craft store and send your guests home with leftovers.
